Inter faith celebration – Awakening to self within

Acharya Message

Interfaith – Awakening to Real Self

As we enter into one beach (religion) of an ocean (supreme consciousness or god) and perceive other beaches as essential part of an ocean, similarly, all religions are essentially part of one ocean. Ocean is essentially one, beaches are many. God is one, religions are many. But we can never know and experience oneness of all beaches until we enter into an ocean. This is symbolic expression of awakening to spiritual consciousness. This awakening to spiritual consciousness comes by faith. Faith is single pointed belief in Divine’s existence, wisdom, power, love and grace. Therefore, interfaith simply means transcending the world of name and form by which God is known in different religions and aspiring for awakening to god or spiritual consciousness.

Sri Aurobindo Says,” the fundamental faith …………………that the Divine exists and the Divine is the one thing to be followed after -nothing else in life is worth having in comparison with that. So long as a man has that faith, he is marked for the spiritual life and I will say that, even if his nature is full of obstacles and crammed with denials and difficulties, and even if he has many years of struggle, he is marked out for success in the spiritual life.”

Spiritual life transcends the world of name and form. This means one’s mind knows what is beyond name, form and symbols used in religions. This also means one’s mind is constant communication with divine and perceives the one and only one divine behind the veil of name and forms of gods used in different religions.

The word religion comes from the word “relegare ”  read again,” from re- “again” + legere “read” or better word is “reconnect”. Dharma is the word used for religion in Hinduism, meaning “that which holds every being of this universe”. It is our “essential nature” and “the State of being”. But we are both Becoming outside and Being inside.  Being is eternal, therefore, eternal religion. All religions speak of eternal or essential nature or the state of being, which is the center of all creations of the universe and outer layers of the manifest universe is our constantly changing nature which is termed as Becoming.

A movement from Becoming to Being, from outside to inside, from constantly changing to eternal is the way of all religions.

Upanishad says

Moving from falsehood to truth

Moving from ignorance to wisdom

Moving from bondage to freedom

helps us to experience and realize our faith of divine being who dwells within us all.

All our actions can be classified into three categories above. Either we move from truth to falsehood or falsehood to truth. We follow religion when we move from falsehood to the truth. What is falsehood? All our anxiety, stress, sufferings, jealousy, hatred, violence, crime, belongs to falsehood. Further this “falsehood” is not our essential nature, needs to dropped, dissolved and destroyed by moving towards the “truth” which dwells within all of us. The moment we become aware , start moving towards truth, all our unconsciousness, ignorance and falsehood melts away and replaced by traits of “Being” or “eternal nature “ or “the truth” i.e. peace, happiness, harmony, love, wisdom etc. Faith translates into reality or “truth”. Interfaith becomes a movement from Being to Becoming. This is the true nature of our religions in the world. As the world “religion” suggests us to “reconnect”, we start our journey with faith in respective religions to ‘reconnect” to what is present behind the veil of “falsehoods”, “Ignorance” and “Bondage”. Any feeling, thought, emotions that other religions is not true , comes from ignorance or falsehood in which we have been heavily conditioned by the society. Religion is purely individual affair for practice, faith and reconnecting where as society confirms the laws of collectivity. Society always moves in ignorance as it drops the essentials and considers the common elements. Religion excludes all common elements and discovers the essential, eternal and the truth that dwells within us. Interfaith is an effort of intellectual mind to create a space in the mind, devoid of falsehood, ignorance and bondage so that every individual treads the path of religion and discovers his/her essential nature.

My mentor in the Himalayas used to say that if all prayers are done without any label, divine not only appears before us but also enters within us.

Sarve bhavantu sukhina- let everyone be happy

Sarve santu niramaya- let everyone be healthy

Sarve bhadrani pashyantu- let everyone be blessed

Ma kaschiddukhbhagbhaved- let none suffer from any misery in the world

Om shantih shantih shantih

How beautiful the prayer is above. When we pray for everyone to be happy/healthy/blessed, none suffer from miseries and that too with any label of the god, we not only awaken to higher spiritual consciousness or divine being within us but also create a space for every one outside to move within one’s chosen god/religion.

Let there be peace, peace and peace

who taught Yoga to Patanjali- the codifier of Yoga/Raja Yoga

Dear Freinds

thanks for asking the question above. some time question asked is challenging not because of finding the right answer but answer with historical, social, spiritual facts. Patanjali is known as codifier of Yoga, however, Astang Yoga ( eight limbed path) wass first taught ny Yoga master Shukracharya and later learnt by Dattareya.

Dattatreya considers Mantra, Raja , Laya and Hatha Yoga as groups of practices not as schools of Yoga as popularly known in the world. he says they are four different temperament of the people.
