Asana – 1
Being seated is Asana ( one of the most important organs of Hatha, Tantra, Raja Yoga). Being seated transcends all stretching. Hence, Asana is much more than merely stretching.
Asana-2
Asana aims at awakening to physical consciousness and understanding the physical frame separate from it.
Asana-3
Lord Shiva developed or created 8.4 million asana. 84 are important out of 8.4 millions. 32 out of 84; 16 out of 32; 8 out of 16; 4 out of 8; 2 out of 4 ; 1 out of 2 are important. This means practice os Asana may begin with set of asana but progressively reduced to 1 or 2 Asana. This really means progress in Hatha, Raja or Tantra Yoga
Asana -4
Asana practice goes beyond stretching of physical body unlike physical exercise system. It discovers physical consciousness that is liked with breath and mind.
Asana -5
Asana demands awareness and attention of the mind that can be directed inward to discover an existence beyond the physical. But doing Asana alone for stretching is not doing Yoga.
Asana-6
When one is able to sit or be seated in any asana for longer period, that too without any discomfort( stretching) is termed as Asana. Yoga understands the psychosomatic connection much before modern science discovered it.
Asana-7
The practice of asana is to bring Body, Breath and Brain and Mind together. Therefore, many ancient texts says that practice of asana brings immunity to dualities.
Asana -8
Asana teaches how to keep the conscious mind within the body, thereby, not allowing it to wander anywhere. Therefore, asana is different from physical exercise systems.
Asana-9
Every practice of asana should bring calmness of mind, relaxation to body and regulation of breath. If not then it can be termed as practice of asana. It means asana should be practiced different from the practice of physical exercise.
Asana -10
How mind can be taught to enter into new relationship with the body is what Asana practice is?
Asana -11
The number of Asana should be practiced depends on level of awareness and not the level of flexibility of joints and muscle groups.
Asana -12
If one is totally involved in the body, guided by the passions, cravings of the body. He/she may practice 84-32- asana but progressively reduce again to 1 o2 asana as understood in the authentic texts.
Asana -13
If one lives a mental life not involved in physical body and its passions. Then practice of 1 or 2 asana is/ are sufficient.
Asana -14
Asana is in reality a process of physical awakening and not physical stretching ( which may be an outer experience but not compulsory). This awakening aims at setting the inward journey to explore what lies beyond the body.
Asana -15
Nowhere it is mentioned how many asana Krishna or Shiva (the originators of Yoga) practiced. However, we witness that Lord Shiva sitting in Lotus asana. Natraja Asana is a higher state of consciousness where material/physical is dissolved or transcended to open the gateway to spiritual consciousness.
Asana -16
When we practice 30-40 -50 asana in a class, does it really mean yoga practice?
Asana -17
Does mind control the body or body controls the mind? If mind is powerful than the body, then let mind take charge of the body in the practice of Asana is the message given by ancient masters and texts.
